Chen’s musical journey began in China since she was 4 years old. By the age of 12, she obtained the highest possible piano certification conferred by Shanghai Conservatory, China Conservatory and the Chinese Musician Association. Throughout her adolescent years, she has regularly participated in piano competitions and masterclasses and by the age of 16, she won second prize for the 3rd Irmler International Competition (Dalian). In 2017, Chen achieved third place in the senior section of the 7th International Piano Competition in Milan (Italy) and second place in the Asia International Piano Competition in Korea (2017). In the same year, she was invited to be on the jury for ‘Water Cube Cup’ singing competition (Finland).
From 2011 to 2014 Chen was accepted to study at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore) as a music performance student under the tutelage of Dr. Nicholas Ong (The Julliard School). In 2018, Chen obtained her Bachelors in Music from Sibelius Academy.
Currently, Chen is pursuing her Masters in Classical piano performance at the Sibelius Academy under the tutelage of renowned Finnish pianists Teppo Koivisto and Juhani Lagerspetz. Since year 2014, Chen has been actively involved as a visiting pianist for Furahakören and frequently invited to perform in Finnish-Chinese cultural events held in Helsinki. Currently, Chen is a piano instructor at the International School of Music, Finland and the artistic director of the World Piano Teachers Association (WPTA) Finland.

Where are you from and what instruments do you play?
I’m from Dalian, China. I play the piano and I’m a singer as well.
If you weren’t a musician what would you be doing?
I think I would be an analyst.
Where did you study?
I studied piano performance in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore before coming to Finland.
Where are you studying now?
I’m finishing my Masters degree in piano performance & piano pedagogy from Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki.
What was the thing that got you interested in music?
I started to learn piano at 4-years-old, and I immediately fell in love with the instrument.
Why are you in Finland?
I came here for further studies in Sibelius Academy.
Who is your favourite musician/composer?
It’s too hard to pick only one composer, but I would say I really like romantic period music.
What has been your most special musical experience to date?
Every performance is special, and piano competitions are even more exciting!
Do you have any secret/not-so-secret (unmusical) talents?
I cook quite well.
