We are proud to present the last World Music Workshop of this spring with Javier Sánchez Pérez, organized by the International School of Music Finland in cooperation with the Global Music Centre.
This workshop will consist of an overview of flamenco music styles and provide tools for including this material in a contemporary musical context. Flamenco music has been influenced by a unique cultural mix that resulted from multiple cultures sharing the same land for hundreds of years. This style of flamenco music is called “Palos de ida y vuelta” (styles from there and back again). In this workshop, we will explore the musical influences and connections between Latin America and the Middle East in flamenco music and search for possibilities for creating new music using these styles. Students will learn to understand and improvise over some of the most representative flamenco music styles and mix them with other Latin American styles. Students will also explore characteristic melodies and harmonies and bring their own flavor to the music.
All instrumentalists are welcome—just bring your instrument and voice!
