Guitars of the World Workshop: Andean Guitar

We are proud to present the next Guitars of the World Workshop with Camilo Pajuelo, organized by the International School of Music Finland in cooperation with the Global Music Centre.


Guitar, a very popular instrument all over the world, is deeply rooted in the tradition of the Andean peoples. Over several generations, a particular style developed in Peru, both as solo playing or in a band. This style is known as the Andean guitar.

This workshop introduces participants to Andean guitar in a didactic way. Practical examples will be used for both solo guitar and guitar ensemble. The main technical and expressive resources related to this repertoire (sound production, vibrato, ornamentation, bordoneo, strumming, improvisation, etc.) will be touched upon. The workshop is primarily aimed at intermediate or advanced level guitarists.


1) Introduction to Andean guitar: history, social context, performers, repertoire, style, genres and techniques

2) Main guitar techniques for solo playing: sound production, vibrato, and ornamentation

3) Main techniques for accompaniment guitar: bordoneo, strumming

4) Notions of improvisation for Andean guitar

Date and time: Thu 19.10.2017, 17:00 – 20:00 hrs. & Sat 21.10.2017, 10:00 –13:00 hrs.

Location: Global Music Centre, Hämeentie 34 D, Helsinki

Price: 50€ for two days; 30€ for one day
