GUITARS OF THE WORLD WORKSHOP SERIES: VENEZUELAN CUATRO AND GUITAR

This intensive workshop provides an overview of the main styles and genres of traditional Venezuelan music for cuatro and guitar. By using a didactic method, participants will be able to complete their knowledge and improve their skills using an accurate perspective of the style.
The workshop is aimed at participants who have already some knowledge about cuatro and/or guitar playing. It consists of four parts:
- Review of the basic musical genres and rhythms in traditional Venezuelan music
- Advanced musical genres and rhythms (danza zuliana, gaita, seis por derecho and pajarillo)
- Three styles of joropo llanero
- Repertoire review
About the instructor:
Born in Los Teques, Miranda, Venezuela, Eduardo Ramírez is an outstanding cuatro, mandolin, and guitar player. He has founded and conducted the Estudiantina del Ateneo de Los Teques and the Orquesta Típica de Miranda. He has accompanied famous Venezuelan folk singers, such as Gualberto Ibarreto, among others. He has also worked as guest conductor of the Plectrum Young Orchestra of Baden Württemberg. He has worked as chairman of the Foundation for the Typical Orchestras of Venezuela; vice-chair and mandolin player of the National Typical Orchestra; conductor of the Otilio Galíndez Ensemble and conductor of the Estudiantina from the National Typical Orchestra.
He has performed concerts in Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Spain, Germany, Finland, France, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Guyana, Portugal, and Venezuela. Besides, he offers workshops on Venezuelan music on a regular basis in Europe.
