LABORATORY OF PERFORMANCE EXPLORATION AND MUSIC CREATION IN REAL TIME
March 26 - March 27
We are proud to present our next Advanced Musicianship Tools Workshop Series with Sergio Castrillón; organised by the International School of Music Finland in cooperation with the Global Music Centre.
This workshop aims to gather professional musicians and music students possessing different levels of knowledge, backgrounds and genres to develop skills that will allow them to participate in the process of creativity in real time and to achieve a greater depth of knowledge of their instruments. All these ideas will lead to the development of modern music manifestations, which will include the use of multimedia and new technologies.
This workshop encompasses knowledge and experiences coming from free improvisation, music heuristics and the process of composition through performance. It intends to develop tools to perform as soloist, as well as to play in any kind of ensemble.
It is important to clarify that this workshop is not called “improvisation” even though improvisation is an important part of the Laboratory. However, the workshop aims to go beyond improvisation into other important aspects of music performance, including deep listening.
Contents and activities:
Introduction of the theory:
- Discussion of improvisation and composition in real time.
- Extended techniques (brief, depending on the level of the students).
- Deep listening (From the theory of Erik Chirtenssen and the method of Pauline Oliveros).
- Warming up exercises.
- Time awareness in performance.
- Instrumental exploration through extended techniques (Solo and groups).
- Instrumental interpretation of short electroacoustic pieces (Groups).
- Introduction to interpretation and use of graphic notation.
