Q&A with Anne-Laure
𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆?
I’m French, was born in a small city next to Bordeaux, but spent more than the half of my life in Paris. I’m a pianist, a singer, and play a little bit of Eb saxophone.
𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆?
For my classical studies in piano and singing, I went to the National Conservatories of Bordeaux, then Versailles (right next to the famous Louis XIV castle), then in the 8th district conservatory of Paris.
I also went to the Atla amplified music school where I studied pop, vocal jazz, arrangement, the Arpej school where I deepened my vocal jazz knowlegde and was the lead singer in the big band, and finally the Aubervilliers National Conservatory where I trained in vocal rock and arrangement.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰?
My parents bought a piano for my big brother. He didn’t like it and didn’t want to learn how to play…but I did!!!
𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘁 𝗮 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴?
I’m passionate about languages and ethnomusicology, so I guess that’s what I would have studied. But hey, with singing opera, pop and folk songs, I found out that those contain practically everything! So I don’t have to question it too much, though in my next life I plan to study quantum physics.
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱?
I kind of won the lottery the day I chose to realize my old dream to travel to see the Taïga and if I got lucky, the aurora borealis. I randomly picked a place in Western Finnish Lapland, and there I felt at home. I totally fell in love with the country and…a man. All of that was totally unexpected and it felt like being in a movie! This trip totally changed my life.
