Laura Koivusalo has been teaching violin to beginners and advanced students since 2017. In addition to her role as a teacher at ISM, Laura also leads youth orchestras and pre-instrumental groups in Tempo Sistema in Oulu. Laura graduated from Kaustinen College of Music (2017) and also holds a Bachelor’s degree of Culture and Arts from Oulu University of Applied Sciences, majoring in Music Pedagogy (2021).

Laura’s musical roots are in Finnish folk music, and she has held a fiddle practically since learning to walk in “Finland’s folk music capital,” Kaustinen. She has performed with many bands and orchestras and travelled with her violin to South Africa, Germany, Sweden and Norway, seeking to learn beautiful tunes from around the globe. Laura does not limit herself to any specific genre, instead believing that one can become a wonderful musician by practicing and performing many different types of music.

As a teacher Laura is enthusiastic, caring, and student-oriented, and her goal is to make sure learning music is fun, since playing the violin can be magnificent!
