GUITARS OF THE WORLD WORKSHOP SERIES: CHARANGO WORKSHOP
March 22 @ 5:00 pm - March 23 @ 8:00 pm
We are proud to present the next Guitars of the World Workshop with Pedro Castellón, organized by the International School of Music Finland in cooperation with the Global Music Centre.
The charango has become an essential musical instrument in the Andean region. Several centuries ago, it was used in the native ritual music of the North of Potosí and then, gradually, in urban traditional music as well. It has continued growing in popularity into the present. This workshop aims to present an overview of this long process, and also to offer a practical approach to the main aspects of charango performance. It is targeted for pupils who already have basic skills in guitar or another stringed instruments.
- Brief charango history: the origin, development, and dispersion of charangos in the Andean region. The ‘guitarrillas’ (small guitars) of the North of Potosí, traditional and brand new charangos. Main representatives of charangos.
- Strumming, ‘repiques’ and trémolo in Bolivian musical genres
- Main plucking techniques
