Come and join us to learn how to play ukulele! In this workshop, we will introduce the instrument, give basic information on how to play it, learn a song or two, and play while singing  (since singing goes hand-in-hand with playing the ukulele!)

Come and enjoy the music of our skilled piano students! In this concert, 16 students who received merit or distinction from last year’s ABRSM exams will be performing beautiful piano music.

November 11-12: VENEZUELAN CUATRO AND GUITAR Workshop

This intensive workshop provides an overview of the main styles and genres of traditional Venezuelan music for cuatro and guitar. By using a didactic method, participants will be able to complete their knowledge and improve their skills using an accurate perspective of the style from Eduardo Ramírez, an outstanding cuatro, mandolin, and guitar player.

October 28: YIDDISH SONG WORKSHOP

Yiddish is more than just a language: it also has its own musical culture, with unique wordless melodies, ornamentation and style. Join singer Louisa Lyne in this 90-minute workshop filled with energy and warmth, where you can explore and experience this Yiddish musical culture firsthand. Accordionist Edin Bahtijaragic will be accompanying the session. No previous experience is needed, just an open mind, curiosity and interest to try something new! This workshop is open for everyone (not just vocalists!) who is interested in the style.

Come and join us in expressing joy and synchronicity through percussion! A drum circle is a great bond-builder and stress-buster, and it is a great chance to connect with others through rhythm. We are holding the drum circle three times this autumn, and the next one is on October 25. This is a family-friendly event, and both adults and children (ages 5 and up) are welcome!

September 27-28: Kora (“African harp”) Workshop

The kora is a beautiful traditional 22-stringed harp instrument played by West-African musician families. Nowadays it is adapted to many different musical styles and can often heard in world music from around the globe. In this workshop, we will start from the very beginning by learning the basic playing techniques, melodic and rhythm patterns used in kora playing, and then learn how to play select songs on the kora.

AUGUST 31: ISM GOES ESPOO!

 

Come visit Espoo International School on August 31 for some great music and information on our music school’s activities. Concept Concerts: The Old man and the Sea: Sir Franklin’s lost expedition

Come and experience through music and words, the story of a cold and icy expedition to the North West Passage. 1845, Sir John Franklin and his men were bound for the Arctic, the biggest expedition of its kind. What would happen to make this one of the most disastrous voyages in sea faring history? With music by Debussy, Bach Beethoven, Elgar and others, immerse yourself in the bleak white landscape of the north, and learn of this fascinating story of adventure, determination, disaster and ultimately demise.

The program embraces a variety of musical genres such as joropo, vals, bolero, tonada, merengue, milonga, etc. from several Latin American countries.
