November 13: Concept Concerts: Zumba que zumba

An exciting selection of Latin American music performed by Cantares, a duo formed by Venezuelan singer Nathaly Gómez and Peruvian multi-instrumentalist and musicologist Camilo Pajuelo, and Colombian harp player and singer Natalia Castrillón. The program embraces a variety of musical genres such as joropo, vals, bolero, tonada, merengue, milonga, etc. from several Latin American countries.

November 20: Concept Concerts: Melodies of China

This performance explores the inter-exchanges between traditional Chinese folk music and modern Chinese popular music. The programme consists of a mixture of folk music and popular music arranged for piano duets, solo piano and piano and vocal (s). Arrangements by Jeremy Wong.

Concept Concerts: The Old man and the Sea: Sir Franklin’s lost expedition

Come and experience through music and words, the story of a cold and icy expedition to the North West Passage. 1845, Sir John Franklin and his men were bound for the Arctic, the biggest expedition of its kind. What would happen to make this one of the most disastrous voyages in sea faring history? With music by Debussy, Bach Beethoven, Elgar and others, immerse yourself in the bleak white landscape of the north, and learn of this fascinating story of adventure, determination, disaster and ultimately demise.

Vicente Bianchi Alarcón is a remarkable Chilean composer born in 1920 who was recently awarded the National Prize of Composition of Chile, in 2016. This concert will gather a large number of Finnish and international musicians living as well as the Ensamble Santiago de Chile.
