Join us for a fun session of making music with your children! Livia, Music Playschool teacher from the International School of Music Finland, will lead participants in musical games and fun exercises. Come and try it out!

Join us for our second annual ISM Finland summer camp! Our summer camp features fun musical activities for children ages 7-11.
This camp focuses on interdisciplinary creativity. From music and drawing to building your own instrument, this is a camp that will foster your child’s inner Da Vinci. In addition there will be playful games, free activities and percussion exploration.

November 21 & 25: Latin American Folk and Popular Music Workshop for guitar
Join us for this two-day workshop on Latin American guitar music with teacher Camilo Pajuelo. In this workshop, participants will be presented with an overview of the main musical styles and genres in Latin American folk and popular music and will learn basic and advanced playing techniques in guitar accompaniment of musical genres such as vals, pasillo, bambuco, landó, festejo, marinera, cueca, zamba, milonga, chamamé, among others. The workshop is recommended for intermediate and advanced level guitarists.

February 15 & 17: Arabic Music Workshop: Theory and Practice
In this interactive in-person workshop, we will delve into the beauty and richness of Arabic musical melodies, rhythms, lyrics and more. Teacher Nemat Battah will present a brief overview on Arabic music theory, forms and practice covering the Levant and Egypt areas during the second half of 19th century-early 20th century. We will discuss some form differences and stylistic performance aspects by listening to some original recordings and analysing them aurally.
The workshop is open to both newcomers and those who participated in previous Arabic Music Workshops. All vocalists and/or instrumentalists with a basic knowledge of music theory are welcome to join. The main focus of the workshop will be on practical aspects of practicing and playing segments of tunes by ear.

Due to the current coronavirus situation, all attendees over the age of 16 will be required to show a valid Coronapass. All attendees over the age of 12 will also be asked to wear a mask whenever possible (this may not apply to all performers). We also recommend masks for younger attendees as well. In accordance with the new guidelines, we no longer have a limit of two visitors per performer, though we still recommend minimizing the number of attendees if possible.

In this workshop our experienced ukulele and piano teacher Silvia will show you everything you need to know to start playing your own tunes on the ukulele. Participants will be introduced to the instrument, learn how to tune it, explore the rhythmic possibilities through body percussion and basic strumming, learn a few songs, and learn to play while singing (since singing goes hand-in-hand with playing the ukulele!).
The workshop takes place on Tuesdays starting May 5 (dates: 5.5, 12.5, 19.5, 26.5). There are two options for this course:

We are proud to present the first World Music Workshop this Spring with Nemat Battah, organised by the International School of Music Finland in cooperation with the Global Music Centre. In this workshop, Nemat Battah will introduce the beauty and richness of Arabic musical melodies, rhythms, lyrics and more.

The International Artists’ Association of Finland present the ‘East Meets West’ music gala, which brings together an array of music performances that highlights interesting dialogues between Chinese, Finnish and Western Classical music. The programme features performances of both Western instruments (Flute, Piano, Violin, Accordion, double bass, drums/percussion) and the Erhu, a traditional Chinese instrument. Other highlights of the concert include Peking opera singing, Western Classical lied and a Finnish chamber choir that present folk songs from multiple musical cultures. The goal of the concert is to show that music is a beautiful universal language.
This concert features performances by ISM teachers Chen Qu and Jeremy Wong, among many other performers.

This intensive workshop provides an overview of the main styles and genres of traditional Venezuelan music for cuatro and guitar. By using a didactic method, participants will be able to complete their knowledge and improve their skills using an accurate perspective of the style from Eduardo Ramírez, an outstanding cuatro, mandolin, and guitar player.

Yiddish is more than just a language: it also has its own musical culture, with unique wordless melodies, ornamentation and style. Join singer Louisa Lyne in this 90-minute workshop filled with energy and warmth, where you can explore and experience this Yiddish musical culture firsthand. Accordionist Edin Bahtijaragic will be accompanying the session. No previous experience is needed, just an open mind, curiosity and interest to try something new! This workshop is open for everyone (not just vocalists!) who is interested in the style.

The kora is a beautiful traditional 22-stringed harp instrument played by West-African musician families. Nowadays it is adapted to many different musical styles and can often heard in world music from around the globe. In this workshop, we will start from the very beginning by learning the basic playing techniques, melodic and rhythm patterns used in kora playing, and then learn how to play select songs on the kora.

Vicente Bianchi Alarcón is a remarkable Chilean composer born in 1920 who was recently awarded the National Prize of Composition of Chile, in 2016. This concert will gather a large number of Finnish and international musicians living as well as the Ensamble Santiago de Chile.
