March 26: Jazz Meets Indian Music Workshop
ISM Finland and the Global Music Centre are proud to announce an educational and interactive evening exploring the intersection of jazz and Indian music! This workshop is open to intermediate and advanced level musicians of all instruments. You are welcome to bring your instrument. A piano will be available at the location as well.

Enhance your repertoire with composition practice
Exploring the intersection between Jazz and Indian classical music

About the teacher:
Dr. Jyotsna Srikanth is a renowned Carnatic violinist and composer, acclaimed for her global performances and collaborations across genres. She has received prestigious awards, contributed to over 300 Indian films, and performed at major venues like BBC Proms and Royal Albert Hall. A medical doctor by training, she seamlessly blends tradition with innovation in her music.
March 23: “Musical Instrument Path” for Children Ages 5-12
The Helsinki Musiikkitalo and the Finnish Association of Music Schools invites children from the Helsinki Metropolitan Area to explore the diverse world of music and musical instruments. Welcome to try out musical instruments and get excited about making music!
At the event, you can explore the following musical instruments with the help of friendly teachers:
String instruments: violin, viola, cello and double bass String instruments: guitar, ukulele, harp, kantele and concert kantele Wind instruments: flute, recorder, clarinet, saxophone, oboe and bassoon Brass instruments: French horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn and tuba Keyboards: piano and accordion Percussion instruments: various drums and percussion instruments Singing: classical, children’s songs and choir Electric instruments: electric guitar, electric bass and other electric instruments
The Instrument Path is best suited for 5–12 year olds, but older children can also try out musical instruments to help them consider a musical hobby.

August 15: Instrument Demonstrations and Music Workshops (Helsinki Night of the Arts)
Come visit the International School of Music Finland on Helsinki’s Night of the Arts for hands-on instrument demonstrations and fun music workshops! You can also meet our teachers and learn more about our school and the lessons we offer.

Workshop schedule:
16.00-16.20- Piano pre-instrument group workshop. Take the first steps in learning how to play piano! For children ages 5-8. Taught by Silvia Melero Gomez. Only 5 places available, so please register before the event by emailing info@ismfinland.org
16.30-16.50 – Ukulele interactive demonstration for children ages 7-10. Learn how to play a simple song on the ukulele! Ukuleles will be provided for all participants. Taught by Silvia Melero Gomez. Only 7 places available, so please register before the event by emailing info@ismfinland.org
17.00-17.20 – Indian Music and Raaga Therapy Session by Ujjainee Ghosh. For everyone ages 7 and up, children and adults. No prior musical experience required.
17.30- 17.50- Storytelling and soundscapes for children ages 4-7 by Livia Schweizer. Learn how books, words and stories can be used to create soundscapes and encourage musical creativity! With percussion and small instruments the group will create soundscapes and improvise, encouraged by words and storytelling.
18.00-18.20- Soundpainting for adults by Livia Schweizer. Learn how to improvise and make music by just thinking about colors, gestures and shapes. With percussion and different small instruments the group will explore together the possibilities of ‘soundpainting’. No prior musical experience needed and everyone is welcome!
18.30-18.50- Drumming circle with teacher Henri Salonen. Let’s make fun rhythms as a group in this workshop for all ages! No prior musical experience required.
Wednesday, March 6: Free Music Playschool Event in Helsinki: Cello, Rhythm, and Relaxation
Join us for a fun session of musical movement, games, and listening exercises that will develop your child’s creativity and stimulate their relaxation. ISM Finland playschool teacher and cellist Barbara (M.A. in Cello and Pedagogy, Sibelius Academy) will lead children in dances to live cello music, various rhythmic games, and finish with sonore relaxation techniques.
The event is split into two groups depending on the age of the children:
This event is open to people of all cultures and backgrounds. The primary language of instruction is English, with the possibility of French as a supporting language.

Saturday, March 2: Harmony in Raagas: An Immersive Indian Music Workshop for Adults in Helsinki
Join us for a fun and free introduction to Indian music for adults! In this workshop, participants be guided through a brief history of Indian music, introduced to some of the different forms of Indian music and singing styles, and be able to participate in some practical exercises for breathwork and singing.
No previous musical experience is required and everyone is welcome to attend. This workshop may be especially beneficial for you if:
You have an interest in Indian music and are not sure exactly where to start
You would like to try out and know about different aspects of Indian music: classical, light, instruments, bollywood
You already have some (or a lot of..) western music knowledge and would liketo know how that relates to Indian classical music
You just want to try it for fun!
The language of instruction is English. The teacher also speaks the following Indian languages: Hindi, Bengali and some Marathi and Gujarati. If participants are interested, there may be a possibility for individual or group Indian music lessons organized at a later time.

Saturday, March 2: Music Playschool Demo in Espoo: A Playful Introduction to Indian Music!
Join us for a fun session of making music with your children, with an Indian twist! Ujjainee Ghosh, an Indian classical musician and music teacher from Kolkata, will lead children and parents in an overview of Indian instruments, Indian vocal practices (Swaras), movement activities, breathing exercises and rhythmic games.
This event is for children ages 3-6 along with one or both parents, and is open to people of all cultures and backgrounds. The primary language of instruction is English. The teacher also speaks the following Indian languages: Hindi, Bengali and some Marathi and Gujarati. If the event receives enough interest, we will offer regular weekly Indian music playschool lessons.

December 1: Christmas Market with Gift Card Raffle
ISM Finland is participating in Carousel Nursery School’s Second Chance Christmas Market! Come visit Salmisaaren liikuntakeskus in Helsinki for a nice Christmas party (pikkujoulu) event, where ISM Finland and many other organizations will be raffling great prizes, including several music lesson gift cards. All ages and nationalities are welcome. We look forward to seeing you!
August 26: Instrument Demonstrations and Music Performances (Espoopäivä)
Come visit Espoo International School on Espoo Day (Espoopäivä) for hands-on instrument demonstrations and a chance to meet our wonderful international music teachers from the International School of Music Finland. You can also ask us any questions about instruments and the music lessons we offer.
We will have music demonstrations for the following instruments: piano, voice, guitar, ukulele, drums and violin.

Saturdays in July & August: Music Playschool in the Park
Join us for a fun session of making music with your children! Livia, Music Playschool teacher from the International School of Music Finland, will lead participants in musical games and fun exercises. Come and try it out!
This event is for children aged 0-7. Bring your own blanket to create a safe spot, and get ready to make some music and have some fun.
Note that in case of rain, this event will be moved inside to the ISM Studio at Hietalahdenkatu 8.

Join us for our second annual ISM Finland summer camp! Our summer camp features fun musical activities for children ages 7-11.
This camp focuses on interdisciplinary creativity. From music and drawing to building your own instrument, this is a camp that will foster your child’s inner Da Vinci. In addition there will be playful games, free activities and percussion exploration.

April 15: Exam Prep Concerts at Arkadia International Bookshop
Our ABRSM and MTB candidates will perform a prep concert at Arkadia International Bookshop on April 15.
