Q&A with Myra
Where are you from and what instruments do you play?
I’m originally from Colorado, USA. I can sing, play the piano, guitar, recorder and ukulele.
If you weren’t a musician what would you be doing?
I would be an elementary teacher.
What was the thing that got you interested in music?
When I was in first grade at school my music teacher gave me the solo for our music program. Ever since then I’ve loved singing and haven’t stopped since!
What made you come to Finland?
My husband is half Finnish/half American and we decided to move here when our son was two years old.
Who is your favourite musician/composer?
I am mostly interested in choral composers; like Eric Whitacre, René Clausen, and Z. Randall Stroope
What has been your most special musical experience to date?
This is a very difficult question but I can think of a couple; when I was teaching in Malaysia, at Christmastime my choir (which had 60 choir members) would sing at this very nice hotel in downtown Kuala Lumpur. It was a great experience for the kids as we had a great audience of people passing by and I was very proud of how well they performed.
Also another special music experience was having our Christmas concert in Espoo with the EIS choir this past December. We had just met each other in September and they worked very hard in preparing for the concert. I was very proud!
Do you have any secret/not-so-secret (non-musical) talents?
I can make a pretty good Wookie (Chewbacca) noise.
Do you have a guilty pleasure?
When I have time, I like to watch reality tv and love to eat cookie dough ice cream.
What is your favourite country to visit?
Singapore or Austria. I also enjoy visiting the US to see my family.
What is your favourite food?
I enjoy Indian food and Mexican food .
Do you have hobbies?
I like to bake, read, play board games and run (I just signed up for my next 10k race!)
